Bi-Metal containers can be returned to a Depot
December 13, 2016
The holiday season is in full swing, and that means more of us will be hosting family and friends for festive celebrations. Did you know that bi-metal cans like pineapple and tomato juice can be returned to your local Alberta Depot?
Each bi-metal beverage container over one litre carries a $0.25 deposit. Containers that are one litre or less have a $0.10 deposit.
Bi-metal beverage containers are composed of two separate metals joined together. Instead of being a mixture of two or more metals, like alloys, bi-metal beverage containers consist of two layers of different metals that can be recycled and turned into various products such as rebar or car parts.
So next time you are headed to the Depot, don’t forget to take those bi-metal cans you may have used at your last holiday party. You’ll get your refund back, and ensure the can is being recycled into something useful again.
Visit the Containers Types and Refunds page to learn more about all of the different types of beverage containers you can return to an Alberta Depot. If you can’t find the type of container you’re looking for, try entering the brand name or the UPC code in the BCMB Portal Search.
